Underground Mining Practice (Field Course IV) in Kulon Progo in 2024

Students of the Mining Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, UPN 'Veteran" Yogyakarta who are taking the VI semester, in the even semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year carry out underground mining practices (field lecture IV) which are carried out at Watu Jonggol, Watu Pentul Hamlet, Karangsari Village, Pengasih District, Kulonprogo Regency. The location of the field lecture IV Underground Mining Practice is located in the Kulon Progo area, precisely 2 opening holes, namely: Watu Jonggol Cave which is an opening of the former haul road for mangaan ore and Kalilingseng cave which is a mangaan ore mining site. The condition of the two caves is currently a geoheritage area preserved by the Kulon Progo regency cultural reserve. The location of Watu Jonggol and Kalilingseng caves is located in Karangsari Village, Pengasih District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, approximately 60 km from UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The purpose of underground mining practice is so that students can understand, understand and apply the theory obtained in class during lectures, especially underground mining. The problems faced in underground mining systems are generally more complex than in open pit mines. These problems include: ventilation, buffering, selection of mining methods and drainage. Learning in practical activities includes: mapping of underground mine openings; underground mine ventilation; selection of underground mining methods with weighting (numerical) and rock mass classification. By carrying out underground mining practice activities, each alumni of the Mining Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Mineral Technology, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, in addition to having theoretical competence but also proficient in field practice, is also ready to apply their knowledge to the mining industry, especially underground mining.
